So glad you decided to join us as we Re-Discover America. There is so much to do and see in the USA and we are just scratching the service. But it is my hope that it will make you want to see and do just a little bit more.
Well I have been told that not too many people know about Utah. Sure you know about Salt Lake and Salt Lake City and some of the other big cities and Zion National Park..but you really don't know UTAH. So let's see...what can we say about UTAH....Gorgeous is one word that comes to mind. Versatility is another.
UTAH...is bordered by Idaho and Wyoming in the North and Colorado in the East...It even touches a bit of New Mexico to the Southeast and of course Arizona in the South and of course Nevada in the West. UTAH is mainly rocky and it has three distinct areas ...The Rocky Mountains, The Great Basin and the Colorad Plateau. Of course we are going to be talking about the deserts, the pine forests and mountain valleys....but thats enough of a geography lesson.
Now UTAH is considered dry...semi-arid to arid....and yes the mountians are loaded with snow...great for skiing...(in season)
If you were wondering how populated UTAH is wonder no more. The last census had a population of over 2,000,000 people...but the square miles are over 84,000. So you do have a bit of elbow room. But UTAH is not only for retirees . As a matter of fact UTAH has the youngest population of any U.S. State. With a little more men than women.
Like I said earlier UTAH is divided into regions, with National and State Parks and great cities.
For example:
The Northern Region has:
Bear Lake State Park and its called the Caribbean of the Rockies, because the water is so blue and had some great beaches. (the water may be too cold for me from Florida)
Golden Spike National Historic Area...This is the place where the transcontinental Railroad placed the spike for its final link...
The Central Region has:
Dinosaur National Monument...a great place to bring the kids that love Dinosaurs because it has the largest quarry of Jurassic Period dinosaur bones ever discovered!
Fishlake National Forest...this forest is home to world's oldest and largest living organism....The Pando clone of aspen trees...estimated to be 80,000 years old and weighing 13 million pounds....
The Southern Region with:
Snow Canyon State Park with sandstone cliffs that are not nearly as tall as those in Zion National Park breathtaking just the same.
Natural Bridges National Monument...the park has three tremendous rock arches...Natural Bridges is a little tough to reach with elevations of 6500 ft but in the summer time it can be just a little cooler.
Those were just some of the parks. This was just a teaser of what we can do and see in Utah...like I said some great Skiing, wonderful Wildlife, Festivals and Events. And we will not forget Museums and Art Galleries along with some great dining and shopping.
We will be exploring more of these things in UTAH as we go along and you can follow along on my podcast.
